Karen J. Cook-Ellenberger

Karen J. Cook-Ellenberger, 72, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 4, 2022 at her residence.

She was born on January 7, 1949 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Harold & May (Hill) Myers.  On September 15, 1968 she married Don Cook and he passed away March 12, 2017.  She was married to Greg J. Ellenberger on October 25, 2019.

Karen was a 1968 graduate of Adams Central High School Class and a 1984 graduate of Decatur Beauty College.  She was a beautician and had owned and operated Karen’s Hair Gallery in Decatur for many years, retiring in 2018.

She also had owned and operated Loves Nest Catering in Decatur prior to working as a beautician.

She attended New Beginnings Faith Center in Decatur and was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority.

Karen enjoyed crafts, cooking, and making afghan blankets along with doing hair and nails for her many patrons.

She is survived by her husband, Greg Ellenberger of Decatur, Indiana; mother, May Moore of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Stacia M. Herdman of Decatur, Indiana; son, Jay (Melissa) Cook of Decatur, Indiana; three step-daughters, Alicia (Mike) Jansen of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rachel (Kris) Burkhart of Monroe, Indiana, and Sarah (Jeff) Freehill of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren, Shelby (David Koehler) Herdman, Shayla (fiance, Jacob Meyer) Herdman, Steven Herdman, Nevan Cook and Faith Cook; and a great-granddaughter, Elianna Meyer.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Kermit Myers.

A Tri Kappa Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur directly followed by a funeral service with Pastor Bob Miller officiating.

Family and friends will be received from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Black Pine Forrest of Albion, Indiana.
