Karen L. Baumert, 62, of Angola, Indiana passed away Saturday evening, February 1, 2020, at her residence following an illness of seven months.
Karen was born on July 22, 1957 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Ivan and Barbara (Sautter) Minich. On March 11, 2015, she married Greg Baumert in Jamaica.
Karen was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.
She was a caring homemaker as she raised her children, teaching them the importance of cleaning…a skill she continued on during her time at Do-It Best. She also was a faithful employee of the Do-It Best Corporation in New Haven for 25 years, retiring at the end of 2019…from the Housewares and Cleaning Department. In her spare time she was also able to continue her hair styling business on the side.
Karen lived her life by placing the needs of others ahead of her own. This was the same whether at work or at home. Special times in her life were spent traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Being able to retire and live at Crooked Lake was an important part of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Baumert of Angola, Indiana; two sons, Benjamin Maggert of Kendallville, Indiana and Brian Maggert of North Hollywood, California; daughter, Courtney (Dustin) Macy of Avilla, IN; two step-sons, Matt (Beth) Baumert and Ben (Molly) Baumert both of Monroeville, IN; three sisters, Rita (Joe) Cerda of Indianapolis, IN, Denise (Jeff) Ehle of New Haven, IN, and Tammy (Dan) Scheele of Lithia, FL; brother, Neal (Mary) Minich of Brandon, MS; and ten grandchildren, Corbin Maggert, Hayden Maggert, Samuel Macy, Alexander Macy, Elizabeth Macy, Jacob Boyer, Michael Baumert, Drew Baumert, Claire Baumert, and Lydia Baumert.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sandra Beucler.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2020 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church located at 7710 East State Street in For Wayne, Indiana with Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock.
