Joyce C. Aspy

January 19, 1934 — January 3, 2025

Joyce Carol Aspy, 90, of Hoagland, Indiana, entered into the arms of her Savior on January 3, 2025, at Cedarhurst Senior Living with her family by her side.

Born on January 19th, 1934, she was the only child of Ervin and Leah (Richman) Braun. She grew up in Maples, Indiana and attended Hoagland High School where she met her husband, James T. “Pinky” Aspy. They graduated in the spring of 1952 and were married April 26, 1953.

In her early married life, she was a homemaker and raised four children. She provided lovingly while Jim ran their family business, Aspy Tire, Inc. in Hoagland. She was dedicated in her Christian faith and chose to show those lessons important to her in her actions towards others. She was kind, decent and always treated others with dignity and respect. She hosted Bible studies in her home and volunteered at several churches and Christian organizations over the years including teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible school, Sparks, Awanas, and several other outreach programs where she helped shape young Christian lives and is remembered by many as someone who lead by kind example. She also volunteered at Lutheran Hospital for 13 years and was a long standing member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association.

She enjoyed traveling with her friends on chartered bus tours, and she saw many landmarks throughout the country and visited both coasts. Later in life, she worked the counter at Aspy Tire and later Tiny Town Market, where she greatly enjoyed interacting with members of her community and brightening their days with her kind service and infectious humor. In retirement, she enjoyed curating her artistic inclinations by painting Jim’s woodcrafts. She also took pleasure in decorative gardening and yardwork. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her as a quintessential “grandma” who always had a warm hug and an epic snack drawer in her kitchen full of cookies, snack bars and the good kind of junky cereal with marshmallows in it. She loved to spoil, especially on holidays. She gave full size candy bars on Halloween, had an enormous pile of perfectly wrapped gifts under the tree at Christmas (much to Pinky’s chagrin), and created mountainous Easter baskets overflowing with candy and treats. She loved to take her grandchildren shopping for back-to-school clothes in the fall and for Christmas light cruises through well decorated neighborhoods every season.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Mike, and her grandson Drew. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy S. Copper (Aspy), her son, Gregory J. Aspy and wife Rose, her son, Mark M. Aspy and wife Angie, her daughter-in-law, Devonna Davis, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will always remember her as the kind of sweet and gentle woman of a bygone era.

The family would like to thank Cedarhurst Senior Living for their kindness and loving care.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana.
