Joseph Lee “Joe” Amstutz, 85, of Berne, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at his residence.
He was born on September 7, 1934, in Adams County, Indiana to the late Jacob “Lee” Amstutz and the late Mabel Marie (Merriman) Affolder. He was married to Charlene Stewart on July 28, 1962, at Bethel Christian Church in Wayne County, Indiana.
Joe served his country in the United States Army.
He was a faithful member of Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe, Indiana. Joe was a past volunteer with the Monroe Fire Department. He was a member of Jayland Antique Car Club in Portland, Indiana and also a member of the Hoosier Mets.
Joe was employed with General Electric in Decatur and was later employed for Haines Drainage of Berne. In addition, he also worked as a Chrysler mechanic for Walt’s Motor Sales in Decatur and also for Hiday Chrysler in Bluffton.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlene Amstutz of Berne, Indiana; son, Brian Amstutz of Berne, Indiana; son, Curtis (Kemper) Amstutz of Berne, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Gabrielle Amstutz, Benjamin Amstutz, & Joshua Amstutz.
Joe was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Amstutz, and Glen Amstutz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe, Indiana with Pastor David Myers officiating. Burial will follow in M.R.E. Cemetery of rural Berne.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Preferred memorials can be given to ACCF – Cancer Fund or ACCF – Heart Fund.
