JoAnn A. Schurg, 81, of Woodburn, Indiana passed away Saturday morning, July 27, 2019, at Parkview – Randallia Hospice Supportive Care Unit. Her death followed a year-long battle with Alzheimer’s at her residence.
She was born on April 12, 1938 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Albert and Bernice (King) Becker. JoAnn was united in marriage to Everett Schurg on September 12, 1959 at the Woodburn Mennonite Church and he survives.
JoAnn was a 1956 graduate of Woodburn High School. She was attended The Chapel in Ft. Wayne and had been a previous member of LaGrange United Missionary Church, Blackhawk Ministries, and Woodburn Missionary Church.
She was a Registered Nurse, graduating from the West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park, IL which was affiliated with Wheaton College. She was also a Business Manager for the family owned business operated with her husband. In addition, she was involved with her husband in the Christian Business Men’s Committee (CBMC – USA), worked in the office at Trinity Lighting in New Haven, and also with her husband in the group health insurance business.
JoAnn enjoyed eating out, thrift shopping, sewing and crafting, along with traveling the United States.
She is survived by her husband, Everett W. Schurg of Woodburn, Indiana; daughter Dawn (Mike) Mishler of Fort Wayne; grandson, Andrew E. Mishler of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Anna G. Mishler of Fort Wayne; sister-in-law, Betty Becker of Ossian, Indiana; brother-in-law, Jerry (Shirley) Schurg of Woodburn; brother-in-law, Bob (Darlene) Schurg of Woodburn; and sister-in-law, Faye Knipstein of Fort Wayne.
JoAnn is preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Becker and nephew, Brian Becker.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville with Pastor Rick Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery in rural Woodburn, Indiana.
Family and friends will be received from 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to be made to Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery, Woodburn (Checks payable to Westwood Fellowship Church)
