Joann M. Gibson, 86, formerly of Wells County, Indiana passed away Friday, April 1, 2022, in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born May 21, 1935 to the late Raymond & Amanda (Busick) Kimberlin of Monroeville, Indiana. Joann was united in marriage to Luther D. Gibson January 21, 1957. They had many happy years together until his passing June 27, 1983.
Growing up on a farm gave Joann a seemingly unending work ethic, a value that was instilled in her by her parents from a very young age. Joann was always willing to undertake any task that needed to be done, whether it was baling hay, tending livestock, or working in the fields. Joann never met a hard day's work that she didn't attack with purpose. In Luther, she was fortunate enough to find a partner who equally valued hard work and a strong faith in God. They built several homes together in Wells County and maintained a lively social and church life; forging friendships that Joann maintained throughout her entire life. Cooking, gardening and interior decorating were also among her passions.
After Luther’s passing in 1983, Joann devoted herself to her family and friends. In recent years, she loved spending time with the next generation of young children. She never ran out of patience or enthusiasm to play with the little ones, hide-and-seek, learning the rules of board games and card games, and enduring never-ending pretend play. In return, she educated each of them on her own ways to combat boredom - somehow enlisting their smiling faces to willingly help her wash windows, sweep floors, and run the vacuum. Joann’s boundless energy never ceased to amaze those around her, and until her last days she found productivity in otherwise idle time.
Joann Gibson was a strong woman of unwavering faith who will be missed by multiple generations of a family who love her endlessly. She will be remembered not only for her unconditional love and constant support, but also for her kindness, generosity, understanding, and patience - all of which she imparted to those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by two sisters; Ilo Jean (Harold) Irwin of Decatur and Susan Kimberlin Bradley of Augusta, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews to whom she was fondly known as “Aunt Jo.” She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jennien Huston and brother, John Kimberlin.
