Joan R. Roop

Joan R. Roop, 93, of Decatur, Indiana passed away early Sunday morning, August 18, 2024, at Ossian Healthcare.

She was born on January 2, 1931, in Preble, Indiana to the late Louis Reinking and Esther (Merkle)Reinking.

Joan was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Roop on July 14, 1951, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble and they recently celebrated their 73rd Wedding Anniversary.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur where she assisted in the school library and the Gardening Angels group at the church.

Joan graduated from Decatur High School in 1948. She and Kenny were the co-owners of The Second Time Around Antique Store since December of 1985 in Decatur.

Joan received great satisfaction in being with her family at any time, any location, and for any activity.  When she had time for herself, she enjoyed playing the piano, cooking fantastic meals for her family, reading, spending time with Kenny whether biking or walking, and being active in her church.

Joan is survived by her husband, Kenneth Roop of Decatur, Indiana; son, Bruce Allan (Deb) Roop of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Brenda Roop of Elkhart, Indiana; daughter, Betsy (Francis) Disori of Elkhart, Indiana; five grandchildren, Luke Roop, Jed Roop, Ashley Stabler, Zoe Dewing, and Cosmo Disori; four great-grandchildren, Lydia Roop, Bryce Roop, Zayne Roop, and Cleo Dewing.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Chalmer Reinking and Louis Reinking Jr. and a sister, Leota Braun.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur with Pastor Zachary Oedewaldt officiating. Burial will take place at Decatur Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received from 12 Noon – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and with one hour prior to the service at the church.

Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur.
