Joan A. Blume-Fuhrman, 75, of Delphi, Indiana and a former resident of Decatur, Indiana, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at her residence following her battle with cancer.
She was born on February 7, 1947, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Jesse D. Blume and Irene (Bloemker) Blume.
Joan was united in marriage to Charlie Fuhrman on December 5, 1992 in Monroe, Indiana and he survives.
She graduated in 1965 from Monmouth High School and attended IVY Tech where she received a licensed practical nurse (LPN) license. She was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Joan was employed at the Indiana State Dairy Association for 16 years as a Supervisor.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and painting. Joan had a heart for missions serving in Atlanta, Georgia, and Washington DC, working with the homeless. She also served in orphanages, providing clothes and food in Azerbaijan. She built houses in Jamaica with Christian Services International. She also served in Adams County at the domestic violence and women’s shelter, along with Habit for Humanity in Adams County.
Joan is survived by her husband, Charlie Fuhrman of Delphi, Indiana; daughter, Sherri L. (Craig) Cripe of Delphi, Indiana; daughter, Teresa L. (John) Nauyokas of Lafayette, Indiana; brother, Gene (Kris) Blume of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Dianne (Sam) Ortiz of Decatur, Indiana; sister-in-law, Sandy Blume of Decatur, Indiana; sister-in-law, Betty Blume of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Chase Cripe, Hilary (Chris) Wesley, Victoria (Donovan) Weiler, and Madison McSwain; four step-sons, Kevin (Judy) Fuhrman of Decatur, Indiana, Gary Fuhrman of Yoder, Indiana, Mike (Cindy) Fuhrman of Monroeville, Indiana, and Frank (Eve) Fuhrman of Decatur, Indiana; step-daughter, Debbie Capps of New Haven, Indiana; eight step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, David, Jesse Jr. and Don Blume; and a step-daughter, Jodi Roberts.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral 520 N. 2 nd St. Decatur, Indiana, with Life Celebrant Molly Farthing officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Magley Cemetery. The service for Joan will be livestreamed through our Zwick & Jahn Facebook page.
Friends and family will be received from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers preferred memorials can be donated to the Community Cancer Network, INC. It serves cancer patients in twelve counties surrounding Delphi by providing support for unmet needs during cancer treatment.
