Jerry L. Sipe

Jerry L. Sipe, 79, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Thursday morning, December 27, 2018, at Majestic Care in New Haven, Indiana.

He was born on June 22, 1939 in Monroeville, Indiana to Charles E. Sipe and Evelyn L. (Maddox) Sipe. He married Kathleen K. Copenhaver on March 10, 1962 in Payne, Ohio and she preceded him in death on November 3, 2009.

He served his country in the United States Army as a code interceptor in Japan, being honorably discharged on January 22, 1961 at rank of Spec 4 (E-4).

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Monroeville where he used his accounting skills and knowledge as the Treasurer, until his health prevented him from continuing. He was also a member of the Monroeville Lion’s Club where he was a former treasurer for that organization. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville where he also was the Treasurer.

He was a 1957 graduate of Monroeville High School and received an associate’s degree from International Business College. Jerry retired in December of 2013 as the owner of Sipe & Associates in Columbus, Ohio, where he worked as an accountant for 30 years.

Jerry loved hunting, bowling, fishing, & golf. Among his notable achievements were bowling a 290 and also had a hole-in-one. Jerry was also very concerned about his community. In 1978, he was awarded the Citizen of the Year in Columbus for his efforts in helping the city recover following the blizzard that impacted the city.

He is survived by a son, Tracy Sipe of Lewis Center, OH; daughter, Lori Ann Sipe of Dublin, OH; four brothers, Stephen (Bonnie) Sipe of Fort Wayne, IN, Phillip (Cathy) Sipe of New Haven, IN, Kevin (Debbie) Sipe & Tony (Carolyn) Sipe both of Monroeville, IN; five grandchildren, Shannon Coriell, Katy Coriell, Bryan Eyers, Scott Eyers, & Juliet Eyers; four step-grandchildren, Anthony Rooks, Nicholas Rooks, Billy Coriell, & Sarah Nettles; & two great-grandchildren, Danika Coriell & Trinity Coriell.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Perri Lynn Eyers on September 17, 2004; daughter-in-law, Tyla Sipe; and two granddaughters, Jessica Eyers on May 30, 2008 and Jennifer Robin Eyers on February 22, 1996.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, IN with visitation two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Ralph Klinker and Pastor Dave Williamson will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date at Kingwood Memorial Park in Columbus, Ohio.

Preferred memorials are to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or Monroeville EMS.
