Jerry L. Luker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 14, 2025, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur, Indiana. Born on May 16, 1937, in Richmond, Indiana, Jerry lived a life dedicated to family, work, and his many passions.
A proud graduate of Richmond High School, class of 1955, Jerry embarked on a formidable career as a Locomotive Engineer. His dedication to the railroads saw him work with esteemed companies such as Penn Central, Conrail, and CSX for a remarkable 44 years, culminating in his retirement in 1999. Throughout his career, Jerry was a source of knowledge and trust for many, taking immense pride in the work he did.
Jerry had a love for old cars and racing, a passion that was matched only by his enthusiasm for football and classic Western films, particularly those featuring his favorite actor, John Wayne. A genuine student of U.S. history, he found fascination in the stories that shaped the nation. During his time with CSX, he was honored with a new Jeep Grand Cherokee, a testament to his hard work and commitment, an achievement he relished sharing with his loved ones.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 54 years, Joy A. Luker, of Decatur, Indiana. Together, they raised a loving family that includes three sons: Mike (Michelle) Luker of Richmond, Indiana; Jerry (Cathy) Luker of Richmond, Indiana; and Anthony (Jennifer) Luker of Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, he is survived by his step-daughter, Melissa (Trish) Johnson of Ponte Vedra, Florida, as well as 12 cherished grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Ashley, Kimberly, Rebecca, Libby, Rae Ann, Earl Jr., Anthony Jr., James, Mary Rose, and Damien. Furthermore, Jerry took great joy in his five great-grandchildren: Jaelynn, Jayden, Landyn, Addisyn, and Kyson.
Jerry was preceded in death by one son, Earl Luker, a loss that echoes in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on February 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
Preferred memorials are to Adams County Community Foundation- Angel Fund Dementia.
