Jerry L. Beard

Jerry L. Beard, 84, of Berne, Ind. passed away Sunday morning, December 31, 2023 at Swiss Village in Berne.

Jerry was born December 18, 1939 in Decatur, Ind. to the late Roger H. and Orvena L. (Biberstein) Beard.

He served his country in the United States Army Reserves for eight years, as a staff sergeant E6 in the field artillery during the Cold War.

Jerry was united in marriage to Joyce C. Moser on December 5, 1959 at First Missionary Church in Berne, and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2017.

Jerry was a member of First Missionary Church in Berne, where he was a longtime Middle School Sunday School Teacher. He was also the former President of the Berne Lions Club.

Jerry was a journeyman tool and die maker and retired from CTS in Berne. He was known for delivering the mail at Swiss Village. He loved trains, collecting trains, taking pictures of trains, anything trains. He traveled to all 50 states.

Jerry is lovingly survived by his daughter, Teri (Rev. Ken) Hogg of Decatur; son, Jim (Sondra) Beard of Fort Wayne, Ind.; brother, Richard Beard of Muncie, Ind.; two sisters, Marilyn Augsburger of Poplar Grove, Ill. and Judy Jones of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Joshua (Catalina) Hogg, Chrystal (Cole) Went, and Colin (Taylor) Beard; and two great-grandchildren, Liam Went and Archer Hogg.

In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Allen Beard, in infancy.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Swiss Village Chapel with Rev. Dathen Foust and Rev. Ken Hogg officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Saturday morning, from 9:00-11:00 a.m., at the Swiss Village Chapel.

Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #468.

Preferred memorials are to the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund.
