Jeffrey S. Whitehurst

Jeffrey S. Whitehurst, 64, of Berne, Indiana went to be with his Savior Monday, May 22, 2023, doing what he loved to do, working in his yard on a beautiful morning.

Jeff was born to Frederick and Mary (Habegger) Whitehurst on July 25, 1958, in Decatur, Indiana. He was united in marriage to Kathleen O’Dell on September 30, 1978.

Jeff retired in 2020, from Micromatic in Berne following 36 years of service.

He deeply appreciated all things nature and felt closest to God sitting quietly in the woods, taking it all in. He was an avid hunter, taught from a very young age by his father and grandfather, Leonard “Boone” Whitehurst.

While he greatly enjoyed hunting, he was just as happy studying how and where the trees and plants grew, and the habits of the animals. He also loved creating a beautiful yard, moving by hand thousands of rocks and loads of dirt.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen Whitehurst of Berne, Indiana; son, Clint (Cheryn) Whitehurst of Woodburn, Indiana; daughter, Kristen (Jeremy) Reynolds of Decatur, Indiana; parents, Frederick and Mary Whitehurst of Berne, Indiana; brother, Brent Whitehurst of Berne, Indiana; sister, Marsha (Ken) Sonnentag-Groh of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and five grandchildren, Dillion Whitehurst, Evan Whitehurst, Noah Reynolds, Darla Reynolds, and Matthew Reynolds.

A casual gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana with desserts being served.

Private family burial will take place at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, Indiana.

Preferred memorials can be given to the Donor’s Choice.
