Jan A. Witte

Jan A. Witte, 67, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Wednesday evening, April 23, 2025.

He was born on September 22, 1957 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Edwin E. and Betty L. (Hockemeyer) Witte.

Jan was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen. He took much pride in planning and plotting out the cemetery at the church. He could routinely be seen volunteering his electrical services for the church.

Jan worked for Central Electric for over 10 years. He then worked for Shambaugh &Sons until his retirement in 2021. He also was a self-employed electrical contractor and owned farm real estate. Throughout his life, he took great pride and precision in his work and any venture he undertook.

Jan enjoyed taking walks with his dogs. He also enjoyed helping Gene on the farm.

Survivors include his brother, Gene E. Witte of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Jeff M. (Tonda) Witte of Decatur, Indiana; sister-in-law, Jo E. Witte of Decatur, Indiana; niece, Holly (Noah) Barnard of Huntington, Indiana; niece, Katie (Heath) Fullenkamp of Decatur, Indiana; nephew, Colton (Tiffany) Witte of Decatur, Indiana; and niece; Amy Brookman of South Bend, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jay E. Witte and sister-in-law, Merrylu Witte.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen, with Pastor Peter Brock and Pastor Berett Steffen officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran, Bingen cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Preferred memorials can be given to St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or donors’ choice.
