James A. “Jim” Fuhrman, 81, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Monday morning, March 11, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on February 2, 1943, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Otto and Clara (Lahrman) Fuhrman. He was united in marriage to Eva Lou Scheumann on August 30, 1968, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen.
Jim was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim; where he served on many committees and offices in the church. Additionally, he was active in the Wyneken Memorial Lutheran School, where he served for many years both on the school board and as a bookkeeper for the school. He was a member of Hoagland Area Advancement Association (H.A.A.A.) where he was a former treasurer. Jim was a member of Heritage Lions Club and American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.
He served in the United States Army Reserve as a Private E-1 and was honorably discharged.
Jim graduated from Monmouth High School and went to International Business College and received his Associate Degree in Fort Wayne and then later received his Bachelors in Administration from Marion College. He was employed at Slater Steel for 36 years and spent most of the time as a controller and five years at Dolco Manufacturing Corporation. Following his retirement, he worked at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes.
He loved going to various activities that his grandchildren were involved in and socializing with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Evie Fuhrman of Hoagland, Indiana; daughter, Beth (Don) Kitson of Decatur, Indiana; son, Chad (Erin) Fuhrman of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Shirley Hormann of Decatur, Indiana; and five grandchildren, Aubrey Fuhrman, Hayden Fuhrman, DJ Kitson, Isaac Fuhrman, Kate Kitson. He is also survived by Evie’s family, brother, Richard (Donna) Scheumann of Hoagland, Indiana; brother, Roger Scheumann of Hoagland, Indiana; sister, Elaine King of New Haven, Indiana; sister, Eleda (Denny) Koenemann of Monroeville, Indiana; and brother, Ray (Jayne) Scheumann of Auburn, Indiana.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin (Madonna), William “Bill” and Otto “Moe” (Marlene) Fuhrman, sister, Ruth (Harvey) Eggers; brother-in-law, Al Hormann; and a niece, Sherry Strasser; and Evie’s family, brother-in-law, Joseph King; sister-in-law, Barbara Scheumann; and niece, Debra Kunkle.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim with Pastor Matt Ulmer officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Friedheim.
Friends and family will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim, Hoagland EMS, Poe EMS, or Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
