Irene M. Steele, 97, of Decatur and formally a longtime resident of Van Wert County passed away Monday, January 11, 2021, at Adams Woodcrest.
She was born on January 10, 1924 in Root Township, Adams County, Indiana to the late William C. Aumann and the late Della (Busick) Aumann.
Irene was united in marriage to Lorenz E. Steele on July 27, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2013.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Decatur. Irene served as a Sunday school teacher and was part of the ladies aid.
Irene graduated from Monmouth High School and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel D. (Linda) Steele of Decatur, Indiana and James L. (Scherry) Steele of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Carol Steele (David Flor) Seip of Noblesville, Indiana; sister, Glenys (Ray Graft) Counterman of Hoagland, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Erin (Brad) Leonardson, Chris (Marah) Steele, Shelby (Robert) Dalrymple, Amanda (David) Zebulske, Zach (Jackie) Steele, Canaan Seip, Eden (Sean) Quinn, Seth (Sarah) Seip, and Joel Seip and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother Lester Aumann.
Private family services will be held on Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Decatur with a public graveside service to follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m.with Pastor David Koeneman officiating.
Preferred memorials are to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Worship Anew which can be sent to the Zwick & Jahn – Decatur office.
Arrangements are by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana.
