Irene Bieberich, 95, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Adams – Woodcrest. Irene’s family is grateful to Heart to Heart Hospice for the care provided to Irene over the past few months as well as the compassionate staff of Adams – Woodcrest Assisted Living and Nursing Home.
She was born August 16, 1925 in Wells County, Indiana to the late Oscar C. Ewell and the late Clara L. (Bultemeier) Ewell.
She was united in marriage to Fredrick W. Bieberich on June 28, 1947, at St. Paul Lutheran Church- Preble. They were married 71 years before his passing on April 8, 2019.
Irene was a faithful and longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Preble. She was active in the church as a Youth Counselor for several years, former president of the Ladies Aid, and also a founding member of the Couples Club at the church. Irene was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #43 and held many offices within the organization. She was involved with the 4-H Club in Adams County where she served as a Leader for many years.
She was a homemaker.
She dearly loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She eagerly awaited the arrival of her first great grandchild later this year. In addition to helping in many capacities at church, she also enjoyed baking, crafts, and making angels. She was affectionately known as “The Angel Lady” because of the hundreds of angels and decorations she handmade over the years. She also enjoyed weekends and fishing at Big Long Lake. Along with Fred, Irene extensively researched and documented both of their family’s genealogy records. She had a lifetime love of singing with her family and friends. In addition she also played the piano and shared that talent with residents in nursing homes.
Irene is survived by a daughter, Candace (Otto) Takacs Jr. of Kettering, Ohio; son, Douglas (Jill) Bieberich of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Gladys (Gene) Thiele of New Haven, Indiana; brother-in-law, Robert (Lillian) Bieberich of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister-in-law, Elaine Goller of Fishers, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Amanda (Dennis) Payonk of Chicago, Illinois, Phillip Bieberich of Mongo, Indiana, and Mitchell Bieberich of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stewart Bieberich; sister, Mabel Ewell; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Ervin (Joy) Ewell & Edgar (Ann) Ewell; and brother-in-law, Ervin Goller.
A public service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2020, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with Pastor Andrew Yeager officiating. Due to the virus, the graveside service will be privately conducted. Masks are asked to be worn for the service.
A limited public viewing will be held on Friday from 12:30 p.m. to service time at the church. Irene’s family appreciates your understanding of the current situation; the family will not be available for interaction due to concerns over public health.
In lieu of flowers, Irene’s family would ask that preferred memorials be given to Worship Anew or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
