Iona Winifred Amspaugh

December 10, 1932 — April 23, 2024

Iona Winifred Amspaugh, age 91 of Berne, Indiana passed into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana.

She was born on December 10, 1932, in Darke County, Ohio to the late Wilford Zeller and Lessie (Warvel) Ampsaugh.

Iona was a 1950 graduate of Greenville High School and furthered her education at St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota, Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, and Ball State in Muncie, Indiana. She served as a missionary under the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Thailand from 1959 through 1965. She ended her career by serving as a reading specialist for twenty-five years at Adams Central Community Schools in Monroe, Indiana.

She was active in her community and church. After retiring, she served as a tour guide at Swiss Heritage Village and enjoyed facilitating ladies’ Bible Studies.

John 11:25 Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies.”

Iona is survived by her two sisters, Danna Miller and Thelma Brewer both residing in Darke County, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, Iona was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Hart; brother, Daniel Frederick Amspaugh; three brothers-in-law, Charles Hart, Roger Miller, and Dean Brewer.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana with Rev. Dr. Jeff Gaskill officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service at Swiss Village.

Private family burial will follow the service at Beamsville Cemetery in Darke County, Ohio.
