Howard F. Martin Sr.

Howard F. Martin Sr., 92, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Monday, February 6, 2023, at Towne House Retirement Community in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born on January 6, 1931, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Honora and Ursula (Hoffman) Martin. He was united in marriage to Doris Krueckeberg on August 6, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana.

Howard was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Fort Wayne, where he had served in many capacities. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 420 in Monroeville, Indiana, and the Pro Fed Eagles in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He retired from Professional Credit Union in Fort Wayne, and previously worked at Anthony Wayne Bank, People’s Trust Bank, and Summit Bank.

Howard was honorably discharged from the United States Army, following his service during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany with the 101st Airborne Division.

Howard cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, biking, gardening, and traveling with Doris. There was nothing that Howard couldn’t do, he could fix anything and passed that trait down to his children.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Martin of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Leesa Martin-Kincaid of Columbia City, Indiana; son, Howard “Fritz” (Alice) Martin Jr. of Columbia City, Indiana; brother, Robert Martin of Columbia City, Indiana; six grandchildren, Rachel (Chaz) Vitug, Casey (Joe) Lee, Faith (Jason) Marks, Sara (James) Bierschbach, Ashley (Abhishek) Kumar, and Alex (Samantha) Kincaid; and 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way, Teo, Zeke, and Ollie Vitug; Faith and Noah Lee; Violet and Ben Marks; Arthur and Chloe Bierschbach; Axel and Azari Kumar; Carson, Howie, and “Cowboy” Kincaid; and faithful grand dogs, Repete, Zoey, Kora, George, Emma, Mackey and Wiley.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Geraldine (Delmar) Dager and Rita (John) Reuille; brother, Richard (Rita) Martin; son-in-law, James Kincaid; and sister-in-law, Thala Martin.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2023, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana with Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #420 following the services.

Family and friends will be received from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church located at 7710 E State Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46815 and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Preferred memorials can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or St. Peter’s Lutheran School.
