Helene M. Spieth

Helene M. Spieth, 83, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Monday afternoon, December 21, 2020, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was born on October 2, 1937 in Allen County, Indiana to Alphonse A. and Virginia M. (Minnick) Sorg.  On September 5, 1959, Helene married James H. Spieth and they shared 49 years together before his passing on December 12, 2008.

She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon and the Rosary Sodality at the church.  She was also a member of Do Better Home Economics Club and the Red Hats.

Helene was a graduate of Hoagland High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1958.  She was a registered nurse and had worked at St. Anne’s Home & Retirement Community, St. Joe Hospital in Fort Wayne, and in child care at St. Louis Catholic School.

Helene loved the Lord and her family. She was proud of the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were all very near and dear to her heart.  She was very involved at St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon and dedicated much time and gifts to the church and other charities as she was able.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends, reading, cooking, gardening, and her flowers.  She also loved puzzles, card games, and Sudoku games.

She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Patrick) Burkhart of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Christopher (Tammy) Spieth of Monroeville, Indiana, Laurie (Bruce) Hojak of Franklin, Ohio, Jeffery (Michelle) Spieth of Monroeville, Indiana, Arnold (Lynda) Spieth of Monroeville, Indiana, Andrew (Missy) Spieth of Maria Stein, Ohio; John Spieth of Monroeville, Indiana, Sam (Renee) Spieth of Woodburn, Indiana, Eric (Danielle) Spieth of Huntington, Indiana, and Erin (Scott) Warden of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two sisters, Jeanette Klingenberger and Victoria Vachon both of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two brothers, Ronald (Carol) Sorg of Hoagland, Indiana and Russell (Sharon) Sorg of Yoder, Indiana, 35 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two more great-grands on the way.  She was also survived by 99 nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Shelburne, Margie Meyers, and Bernadette Adams.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon followed by a public graveside service at approximately 11:00 a.m. Monday at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Besancon.  Masks are required.  You are invited to visit and “like” the Facebook page for Zwick & Jahn where a video will be live streamed Monday during the service.  It will also be available on the Facebook page for several weeks after the service. Fr. Louis Fowoyo will officiate.

Friends and family will be received from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2020, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville.  Masks are required.

Preferred memorials are Masses to the church, Turnstone, or St. Louis Catholic School.
