Harold H. Kleine

Harold H. Kleine, 85, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Indiana.

He was born on September 1, 1935, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Edwin Kleine and the late Martha (Hille) Kleine. Harold met Marceil A. Koenemann and on September 20, 1959, they were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage.

Harold graduated from Hoagland High School in 1954. He was a lifelong and active member of the St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen where he held many offices including Trustee and Chairman. He was a member of the church choir for almost 70 years. He also supported the church by being active in the creation of the Wyneken Lutheran School, serving on the first Board of Education of the association formed by the merger of St. John - Bingen, Zion - Friedheim, and St. Paul - Preble Lutheran Schools. While a long-time member of the Hoagland Area Advance Association (HAAA), Harold was among those dedicated members who were instrumental in spearheading the Oktoberfest and Hoagland Days fundraisers for many years. Harold was also a member of the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur; the 40 and 8 in Ft. Wayne; and the VFW Post #6236 in Decatur. He was also active in the Indiana Farm Bureau along with the Allen County Farm Bureau.

Harold was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed stateside, being honorably discharged following his tour of service.

Harold was a lifelong farmer. In addition, he was a self-employed milk carrier. Harold was also a long-time Marion Township Trustee.

Harold was always in the mood for a game of cards and enjoyed spending time with his family as he watched them grow over the years. Among other things he was known for his sense of humor and was full of practical jokes played on suspecting…and unsuspecting people. He had a knack for impersonations, most famously Santa.

Survivors include in wife, Marceil Kleine of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Carma (Mark) Conrad of Ossian, Indiana; three sons, Kenton (Linda) Kleine of Hoagland, Indiana, Trent (Jane) Kleine of Monroeville, Indiana and Delin Kleine of Hoagland, Indiana; brother, Melvin (Garnita) Kleine of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Berneice (Fred) Clifford of Mountain Grove, Missouri; 11 grandchildren:, Audrey Kleine, Grant Kleine, Brooke Kleine, Emily Kleine, Sarah Kleine, Ryan Kleine, Jenna Scott, Bradley Scott, Monica Scott, Brett (Janine) Conrad, and Olivia Conrad ; and two great-grandchildren, Remey Conrad and Mia Conrad.

Harold was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Janell (Mike) Scott and one sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church- Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery- Bingen with military honors being provided by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur.

Family and friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021, at the St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen Parish Hall and also on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Please enter from the front entrance of church and you will be directed from there. Physical distancing and all guidelines will be followed and masks are required.

Preferred memorials can be given to St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen, Worship Anew, or HAAA.
