Gregory R. Townsend, 73, of Decatur, Indiana passed away early Friday morning, August 20, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Greg was born April 5, 1948 in Mars Hill, Maine to Estle V. Townsend, Sr. and Geraldine R. (McKay) Townsend. On February 4, 1967, Greg was united in marriage to Brenda L. Marbach at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.
Greg served his country in the United States Navy during Viet Nam.
He was a member of Praise Point Church in Willshire, Ohio and the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur, where he was active in the Legion Color Guard. Greg was very active with Voice of the Martyrs and Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.
He was the owner and operator of Townsend’s Tire Service, Inc. for 41 years. Following his retirement, he had worked for Innovative Concepts and Custom Car Care.
Greg was a strong warrior for Christ. He never knew a stranger and wanted to make sure everyone he met knew Jesus too. Greg enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time in the woods in Maine. He loved gardening and sharing everything he grew with others. Greg was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Townsend of Decatur; two daughters, Tina (Chris) Caston of Decatur and Tonya (Ken) Enneking of Woodburn; father, Estle Townsend, Sr. of Fort Wayne; brother, Estle (Sheila) Townsend, Jr. of Decatur; two sisters, Becky Anderson of Columbus, Ohio and Barbara (Don) Raudenbush of Jupiter, Florida; three grandchildren, Isaac Caston, Paige Miller, and Landon Caston; a step-grandchild, Ashley Enneking; and eight nieces and nephews, Heather Dolfin, Caleb Townsend, Lindsay Anderson, Kelley Reichert, Reid Anderson, Adam Raudenbush, Andy Raudenbush, and Chad Raudenbush.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Praise Point Church in Willshire, Ohio with Pastor Brad Kittle officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery with Military Graveside honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Praise Point Church or Voice of the Martyrs.
