Gregory L. Myers

Gregory L. Myers, 68, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at  IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis after a battle with cancer.

He was born on October 22, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late L. Dale Myers and the late Dolores Mary (Leonard) Myers.

Greg was a former member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur.

He was a 1973 graduate of Bellmont High School and a 1977 graduate of St. Joseph’s Rensselaer with a degree in computer science. He retired from EDS Components in Indianapolis with close to 30 years of service.  Prior to that, he was employed at Essex Wire in Fort Wayne.

He was an avid golfer and traveled the United States playing golf.  Greg was a sport’s enthusiast.  He was a long time St. Louis Cardinals fan and IU basketball fan. Greg also enjoyed reading.  He was dedicated to exercise, even incorporating a personal trainer, in order to maintain his health.

Survivors include his brother,    Terry (Anita) Myers of Decatur, Indiana; three sisters, Nancy Hackman, Linda Wefel and Janet Myers all of Decatur, Indiana; nieces and nephews, Eric (Julie) Myers, Jeff (Jon) Myers, Scott Myers, Karla (Russ) Hackman, Brian Hackman, Mark (Lindsay) Hackman, Emily (Greg) Schultz, Jill Wefel, Jennifer (Brandon) Downing, and Nick Myers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Angela Myers in infancy; a brother, Steve Myers; and a nephew, Stephen Myers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur with Fr. Dave Rupert officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Family and friends will be received from  12 noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday – please use 4th street main entrance. The reciting of the Holy Rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Preferred memorials can be given to St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur or ACCF – Cancer Fund.
