Gertrude F. Brames, 85, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Sunday evening, October 15, 2023, at her residence.
She was born on January 12, 1938, in Hoagland, Indiana to the late Henry and Cecilia (Hoffman) Renninger. On June 21, 1958, Gertrude married Parnell L. “Wimp” Brames at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel and he preceded her in death on February 20, 2008.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, Indiana and served on the Ladies Guild. Gert worked at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company; Magnavox Company; Aeroquip Corporation in New Haven and retired in 2000 from CME in Monroeville.
Gert was a genuine farm girl, born and raised in the country. She took pleasure in mowing the yard, tending to gardens and flowerbeds and most of all, cooking & baking. Her potato salad and lemon meringue pie were found at family gatherings and holiday celebrations. Gert’s favorite pastime was playing euchre, and of course winning. Additionally, she loved babysitting and was fortunate enough to enjoy two generations of grandchildren. Gert had a passion for collecting things, and over time, her collection of thimbles expanded into cookie jars. When her granddaughters arrived, she found a new delight in collecting various types of dolls, including Barbie Dolls and Madame Alexander, which were her favorites.
She is survived by son, Jake P. Brames of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Josh P. (Stacey) Brames of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Renee S. (Richard) Pyle of Woodburn, Indiana, sister, Sister Theresa Renninger of Avilla, Indiana; sister, Sister Marilyn Renninger of Frankfort, Illinois; brother, Robert (Margaret) Renninger of Yoder, Indiana; brother, Arthur (Julie) Renninger of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Richard (Karen) Renninger of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister-in-law, Mary Renninger of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Nathan Pyle, Nicholas Pyle, Emma Brames, Arizona Brames, Dakota Brames; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Gert, in addition to her parents and husband, was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Caitlyn Pyle; brothers, Henry (Rose), Eugene, Jerome, Norbert and Jule Renninger; sisters, Judith Renninger and Ruth (Richard) Maldeney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church on Monday, October 23, 2023, with Father Dennis DiBenedetto officiating. Burial will follow at Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana followed by visitation from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials made to Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Monroeville Fire Department or Masses.
