Gary L. Ross, 76, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on June 8, 1945 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Jerry Ross and late Melvena (Newhard) Ross. Gary was united in marriage to Karen Meyer on July 30, 1966 at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and Hoagland Volunteer Fire Department where he was a former Fire Chief.
A man of honor, Gary retired from the 122nd Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard with a rank of Master Sergeant following a career spanning 31 years. Prior to his full-time service in the Air National Guard, Gary was employed at General Electric in Decatur for 22 years. Following his retirement, he worked for several years in the security department at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
He was a Notre Dame fan, enjoyed detailing cars, and above all loved his grandchildren and family. An energetic person, he was a workaholic and always stayed busy.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karen Ross of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Brian (Pat) Ross of Fort Myers, Florida and formerly of Paulding County, Ohio; daughter, Christine (Jeff) Sellers of Huntertown, Indiana; brother, Lanny (Rebecca) Ross of Huntersville, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Eric Ross, Jared Ross, Josh (Alyssa) Sellers, Lindsay (FJ) Rohrbaugh, Jessi Sellers, Lauren Zimmerman and Jenna Sellers and one great-grandson on the way.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Randal Zimmerman and nephew, Michael Ross.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Pastor Douglas Christian officiating. A private burial will be held at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock; Honor Flight Northeast Indiana or Stillwater Hospice.
Arrangements are by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana.
