Everett “Dale” Currie, 78, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on June 20, 1942 in Illinois to Everett R. Currie and Rose J. (Eheart) Currie. Dale was united in marriage to Brenda J. Cook on September 5, 1970, in Decatur, Indiana. They celebrated their 50 year anniversary in September.
He was an Air Force Veteran stationed in Rozwell, New Mexico.
Dale graduated from Pleasant Mills High School class of 1961. He was a member of the Shoo-Flyers RC Club in Glenmore, Ohio where he served as President and Vice President. He was also a member of Adams County RC Club in Monroe where he served as President and Vice President, and was a member of the Decatur Eagles RC Club.
He was employed at General Electric for 24 years before it closed in 1989. In addition, he was an Ultralight Flight Instructor for 12 years, and was a maintenance supervisor for Paran Management at Decatur Plaza. He retired at the young age of 70 years old from True Value Hardware where he was known as “Mr. Fix-it.”
“He was a jack of all trades and a master of none.” Dale constructed a mini-max homebuilt experimental aircraft and a personal use airboat in his garage. He was a regular at Airshows events in Ravenna, Ohio and Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Currie of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Tonya Jo Currie of Midwest City, Oklahoma; three sons, Tim Currie of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Todd Currie of North Augusta, South Carolina and Trent (Tina) Currie of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Jennifer (Timothy) Clements of Suffolk, Virginia; sister, Rose Louise (Dick) Lambert of Decatur, Indiana, brother, David (Barb) Currie of North Webster, Indiana; sister, Sharon D. (Dan) Taylor of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Raymond T. Currie of Bluffton, Indiana; brother, Roger L. (Donna) Currie of Monroe, Indiana; grandchildren and great-children.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Dale’s wishes there will be a private Celebration of Life gathering at a later date.
