Evelyn M Grote

Evelyn M. Grote, 98, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Adams-Woodcrest in Decatur, Indiana.

She was born on February 10, 1925 to the late Fred H. Rebber and the late Adella (Hockemeyer) Rebber.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Donald E. Grote on July 10, 1948, and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2005.

She was a graduate of New Haven High School, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur.

Evelyn faithfully served her family as a homemaker.

Evelyn enjoyed gardening alongside her husband, and canning and freezing the fruits of their labor.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (Gordon) Yanke of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Ellen (Kenneth) Folkerts of Decatur, Indiana; son, Roger (Tonya) Grote of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Jo Ann Balzer of Sturgis, Michigan; grandchildren, Spencer (Kristin) Folkerts, Adam (Elizabeth) Folkerts, Eric (Jessica) Folkerts, Sarah Grote, Jennifer (Ryan) Fruechte, and Alex Balzer; great grandchildren, Skyler Folkerts, Lily Folkerts, Graham Folkerts, Coen Folkerts, Bailey Folkerts, Alexis Fruechte, William Fruechte, and Everett Fruechte; and great great grandchild, Parker Eichorn.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Elvira Bienz.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Decatur, with
Pastor David Koeneman officiating. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Preferred memorials can be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or St. Peter Immanuel School.
