Ervin J. Sorg

Ervin J. Sorg, 84, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Fort Wayne, Indiana. 

He was born on March 17, 1940, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Arthur and Sylvia (Converset) Sorg. Ervin was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Houser on April 17, 1971, at St. Joseph Catholic Church- Hessen Cassel and she preceded him in death on April 10, 2024. Before he and Gloria started their family, they were involved with square dancing and spending time at the lake. Ervin’s enjoyment in life centered on farming. After grandchildren became a part of his life, new priorities were established and he treasured the times he could teach them about life on the farm.

Ervin was a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1965 following his service.

He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church- Hessen Cassel. 

Ervin was a lifelong farmer in the Hoagland area. This was a passion that he enjoyed until age 80. In addition to farming, Ervin retired in 2002 from BF Goodrich in Woodburn following over 40 years of service.

Survivors include his daughter, Angela Sorg of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Keith (Janell) Sorg of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Diane (Jeff) Zinn of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Noah Boggs, Alayna Zinn, Sierra Zinn, Steele Sorg; two sisters, Monica (Don) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Lucille Comment of Monroeville, Indiana; and brother, Paul (Pat) Sorg of Fort Wayne, Indiana. 

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Gloria, Ervin was preceded in death by a brother, Thom (Linda) Sorg and a sister, Bertha (Rich) Schaeffer; and a brother-in-law, Bill Comment.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Hessen Cassel. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery- Hessen Cassel. 

Friends and family will be received from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel prior to the Mass at 11:00 a.m.

The Holy Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home-Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville. 

Preferred memorials can be given to Masses; Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA); or Donor’s Choice.
