Elsita "Elsie" E. Canales

Elsita “Elsie” E. Canales, 77, of Decatur, Indiana passed away early Wednesday morning, February 15, 2023, at Woodcrest in Decatur.

She was born in May 17, 1945, in Ohio City, Ohio to the late Margarito "Margee" and Paula (Espinoza) Canales.

Elsie was a member of Living Word Temple in Decatur. She served two terms on the North Adams Community School Board.

Elsie worked in CTS in Berne for many years and retired from Job Works in Decatur, where she was the office manager.

Elsie enjoyed gardening, reading, ceramics, acrylic and oil painting. In her free time Elsie volunteered and served as the Sunday School Director at Fellowship Missionary Church in Fort Wayne, also at Living Word Temple in Decatur.  She found great joy in being a “second mom” to many of her nieces and nephews.

Elsie is survived by four sisters, Rebecca Canales of Decatur, Indiana, Raquel Canales of Decatur, Indiana, Dianna (Ed) Mendez of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Linda (Phil) Wages of New Paris, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Estella Canales and Rosa Aguilar; brother, Ricardo Canales; nephew, Vincent Longberry, two great-nieces, KC Longberry and Ellie Kruckeberg.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held for Elsie at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Living Word Temple in Decatur with Pastor Jerry French officiating.

Preferred memorials are to WBCL Radio Station.

Arrangements are by the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana.
