Eloise A. Hamrick

October 19, 1919 — November 6, 2022

Eloise A. Hamrick, 103, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Adams Woodcrest.

She was born on October 19, 1919, in Muskegon, Michigan to late Fredrick M. & Ethel (Welch) Brough. Eloise was united in marriage to Cloyde E. Hamrick on March 12, 1938, at Willshire Union U.B. Parsonage. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1986. Eloise knew that Cloyde was the one…. taking him water to seal the deal. They only had eyes for each other from then on.

In her younger years, she was a member of the Adams County Extension Happy Homemakers Club.

Eloise faithfully served her family as a homemaker and proudly served as a farmer with her husband. She was an independent lady who worked on the farm from sun up till sun down. She would then go cook and bake for her family after being in the fields all day. Eloise convinced Cloyde to buy a baler back in the day, where they did custom bailing for many families in Blue Creek Township. She proudly paid off her hay/straw baler in one year, which was quite an achievement back in those times.

Eloise enjoyed crocheting for family, making blankets, booties, and ponchos for her family. She enjoyed making crocheting craft items at the gift shop at Adams Woodcrest. Eloise lived at Adams Woodcrest for 33 years! Eloise life motto was ”don’t say I can’t… say I will try.” She was the first person… at the age of 11 who drove the first steel wheeled tractor in Mercer County Ohio. Cloyde and Eloise loved to travel together, traveling almost all the states, just missing out on Hawaii. She loved the mountains, and she traveled all the providences of Canada. At the age of 13 at a little country church Eloise gave her heart to the Lord; stayed faithful her whole life and received her reward on Sunday night at 103 years old.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Palmer of Bluffton, Indiana, Louetta Allen of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Brenda (Richard) Else of Monroe, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 49 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Hamrick; one brother Fred “Bud” Brough; three sisters, Muriel Bailey, Virginia Girod, and Donna Bailey; and two sons-in-law, Harold Harms and Eugene Palmer.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will follow in the Willshire Cemetery in Willshire, Ohio.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
