Elizabeth “Betty” Neuenschwander, 87, of Berne, Indiana passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Betty was born on June 19, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Harold Hyslop and the late Caroline (Petersen) Hyslop. It was while LeOrace “LeDale” Neuenschwander was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts while he was in the United States Navy that Betty met LeDale. The couple met on a hayride at the Tremont Temple Church. Betty was united in marriage to LeDale on May 1, 1953, in Boston and moved to Berne to raise their family. He preceded Betty in death on February 26, 2011.
She was a faithful member of First Missionary Church in Berne.
Betty was employed at various businesses in the Berne area; including CTS and EPC of Geneva.
Betty spent a lot of time reading. As a faithful Christian, she started every day reading her Bible and always ended each day on her knees in prayer beside her bed. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and children, usually ending up at a location near the ocean. One of her many joys included eating out and spending time with her family. Other hobbies that Betty enjoyed included, quilting, crocheting, and making blankets for her children, grandchildren, and as donations to Riley Children’s Hospital. Betty had a heart of gold and loved unconditionally.
She is survived by her son, Richard “Rick” (Sharon) Neuenschwander of Berne, Indiana; three daughters, Kathie (Ron) Patterson of Berne, Indiana, Carole (Jeff) Billington of Bryant, Indiana, and Lori (Arne) Liechty of Berne, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by a brother, James Hyslop (in infancy) and sisters, Ruth Kirby, and Jean Lyons.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at First Missionary Church in Berne with Pastor Nathan Patterson officiating being assisted by Pastor Dana Neuenschwander. Burial will follow in M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne.
Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Preferred memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
