Elaine S. Liechty, 62, of Geneva, Indiana passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Swiss Village.
She was born on August 31, 1959, in Decatur, Indiana to Raymond and Marjorie (Norr) Zurcher. Elaine was united in marriage to Mike Liechty on January 13, 1990, at First Mennonite Church in Berne.
She was a faithful member of First Mennonite Church in Berne. Elaine taught Sunday School for many years, helped with MCC Meat Canner, Quilting Committee, and assisted in the children’s nursery.
Elaine was employed with Caylor-Nickel Hospital in the business office for over 19 years with many years of perfect attendance. She assisted Mike with caring for M.R.E. Cemetery and also played an essential role on their farm.
Following her auto-accident in 1997, Elaine quilted over 140 quilts for the church’s ministries. She always placed others ahead of her own needs and would often send words of encouragement through cards. Elaine always showed gratification for others who offered their assistance. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and doing many word search puzzles. During her stay at Swiss Village she enjoyed playing Bingo and Uno.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Liechty of Geneva, Indiana; mother, Marjorie Zurcher of Berne, Indiana; brother, Dwight Zurcher of Berne, Indiana; sister, Susan (Brian) Culy of Linn Grove, Indiana; mother-in-law, Betty Liechty of Berne, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Audrey (Dan) Chapman of Carmel, Indiana and Lori (Jud) Myers of Berne, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her father; and father-in-law, Chris Liechty.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022, at First Mennonite Church in Berne with Pastor Jim Schwartz, Pastor Kent Norr, and Marie Nussbaum officiating. Burial will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, and one hour prior to service on Sunday at the church.
Preferred memorials can be given to the MCC Meat Canner or First Mennonite Church Ministry to Ukraine Fund.
