Edwin E. Coil, 89, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Monday evening, February 15, 2021, at Adams Woodcrest.
He was born October 28, 1931 in Willshire, Ohio to Foster and Gertrude (Stetler) Coil. On April 22, 1951, he married Ruth E. Ehrsam at Pleasant Mills Methodist Church.
Ed served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 serving in the 5th RCT Regiment Combat Team.
He graduated from Spencerville High School in 1949 and went on to graduate from International Business College. He worked for Zollner Corporation for 34 years serving as the general manager of the Detroit Pistons from 1965 to 1975. Ed also served for 18 years as an Adams County Commissioner for District 2 and on the Adams Memorial Hospital Board.
He was a member of Pleasant Mills Methodist Church, Moose Lodge #1311 of Decatur, Elks Lodge #993 of Decatur, American Legion Post #43 of Decatur, and F & A M Lodge #571 of Decatur. He was also a member of the Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, the Royal Order of Jesters of Fort Wayne and Zollner’s Quarter Century Club. Ed served as the Adams County Treasurer for 1 1/2 years & was on the Adams Central School Board. He was vice-chairman of Zollner Corporation Board & was a board member from 1971 to 1975 for Metropolitan Society for Crippled Children & Adults.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Coil of Decatur, Indiana; two sons, Rick (Jean) Coil of White Lake, Michigan and Eric (Sherry) Coil of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Denise (Jeff) Alberding of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Rex (Carolyn) Coil of Springfield, Ohio; two sisters, Teresa (Gary) Leppla and Betty Howell both of Wapakoneta, Ohio; grandchildren, Christie (Neil) Komer, Aimee (Brad) Badarak, Lance Coil, and Blake Coil; step-grandchildren, Jordan Lister and Jennifer Starlin; and great-grandchildren, Landon & Caroline Komer, Trevor & Oliver Badarak, and Remi Coil.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilma Gehron; and three brothers, Richard, Larry, and LaVerne Coil.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Karen Garner officiating and the Eulogy by Doug Bauman. Burial will follow at MRE Cemetery in Berne, Indiana. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard of Decatur.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and 11:30 a.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Pleasant Mills Methodist Church or Shriner Children’s Hospital.
