Edward W. “Ed” Mason, 86, of Berne, Indiana, passed away Wednesday morning, March 19, 2025, surrounded by his family at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana.
He was born on June 26, 1938 in Berne, Indiana to the late John H. and Edna Irene (Tumbleson) Mason.
Ed was united in marriage to Karen Curley on September 30, 1960, at the First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana, and she survives.
He was a lifelong member of the First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana. Ed served in various capacities, serving as the treasurer of both the local Missionary Church and the Central District Missionary Church. Ed was a member of the Berne Rotary Club, and served on the Board of Directors for ProFed Credit Union for many years.
During his high school years, he worked for the Berne Hardware Store. Ed graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Following college, he was employed for various companies including Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Brunswick Boats in Warsaw, Indiana, Tempo Products Company in Cleveland, Ohio, Dunbar Furniture in Berne, Indiana, Central Soya Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and retired from Micro-Precision/Textron in Berne, Indiana.
Ed was an avid I.U. and Cubs fan. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course and traveling many places including cruises and trips to Europe. Ed and Karen enjoyed their time living on Rainbow Lake in Geneva. Ed loved spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting events. He enjoyed the fellowship with his friends playing the card game, Wizards, at the Senior Center and Swiss Village.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Mason of Berne, Indiana; daughter, Kimberly (Don) Hoch of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Candace (Tim) Hays of Whitestown, Indiana; brother, Jerry (Beverly) Mason of Carmel, Indiana; sister, Janice (Daniel) Tomano of Berne, Indiana; brother-in-law, Anthony “Tony” Sharp of Berne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Ryan (Melissa) Hoch of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Brittany (Jared) Nifong of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Nathan (Bria) Hays of Chesterton, Indiana, and Tyler (Rachel) Hays of Whitestown, Indiana; seven great-grandchildren, Brennen Hoch, Taylor Hoch, Lakelyn Nifong, Lawson Nifong, Declan Hays, Camden Hays, and Thomas Hays.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Sharp.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana, with Pastor Rick Schwartz officiating. Inurnment will follow in M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, Indiana.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday.
Preferred memorials can be given to Swiss Village Samaritan Fund or First Missionary Church.
