Duane G. Hoffman, 75, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away October 1, 2020 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
He was born November 18, 1944 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Walter Hoffman and the late Lorine (Erxleben) Hoffman.
Duane was united in marriage to Jacqueline “Jackie” Rice on August 9, 1968 at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Preble and she preceded him in death on November 9, 2015.
Duane was an honorably discharged member of the Indiana Air National Guard, serving with the 122nd Fighter Wing in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Duane was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church – Preble where he was a voting member and served for many years as a deacon. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #6236 in Decatur along with the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.
He was employed at the General Electric Plant in Decatur for 27 years where he worked in the tool and die line. Following GE leaving Decatur, he retired and opened his own machine shop, DHPM Machining which he operated for 25 years. He was a longtime volunteer fireman for over 25 years with the Preble Volunteer Fire Department.
Duane was associated with tractor pulling from the early 1970’s until the late 1990’s. He was a quiet man who didn’t need to say much because Jackie said it all. He loved his Allis-Chalmers WD45 Tractor, which his grandsons enjoy today.
Duane is survived by his son, Todd (Tina) Hoffman of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Kimberlee (David) Vitatoe of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Laverne (Richard) Borne of Decatur, Indiana; five grandchildren, Kodi (Lindsey) Hoffman, Benjamin Hoffman, Wil Hoffman, Madeline Vitatoe, and Zachary Vitatoe; three great grandchildren; Case Hoffman, Liza Hoffman, and Rori Hoffman.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Preble with Pastor Andrew Yeager officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery – Preble.
Friends and family will be received from 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2020, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Decatur and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church – Preble or the Adams County Cancer Coalition.
