Duane E. Hockemeyer, 72, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 4, 2021, at Parkview Randallia in Fort Wayne.
He was born on February 11, 1949 in Decatur, Indiana to Edward and Catherine (Springer) Hockemeyer. On September 29, 1973, Duane married Verna Wietfeldt at Martini Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana.
He served in the Indiana Air National Guard.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur.
Duane was a graduate of Hoagland High School. He was a lifelong agriculture & dairy farmer and also drove semi-truck for Doug Bradtmueller for many years.
Duane enjoyed fishing whenever time allowed and like to tinker and fix miscellaneous things.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Hockemeyer of Monroeville, Indiana; three daughters, Leslie (Mark) Leitch of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Kelly (Curt) Shelburne of Angola, Indiana, and Joni (Ryan) Boyle of Monroeville, Indiana; sister, Sharon (Dave) Schlaudroff of Hoagland, Indiana; and two brothers, Robert (Julie) Hockemeyer of Monroeville, Indiana and Carl (Diane) Hockemeyer of Hudson, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Lauren, and Carson Rothgeb, Grace, Taylor and Brooke Shelburne, and Brandon, Brady and Kaitlyn Boyle; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock located at 12912 Franke Road in Monroeville with Pastor Douglas Christian officiating. Burial to follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 & 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock or Worship Anew.
Arrangements are by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana.
