Dorothy L. Delong

Dorothy L. DeLong, 93, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, at her residence.

She was born on February 7, 1931, in Adams County, Indiana to the late Fred E. Fuelling and the late Elsie M. (Franz) Fuelling. Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert E. ”Taxi” DeLong on June 25, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1991.

She was member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur. She was active in the Extension Homemakers Club and Emmaus Guild of the Church. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years.  Her faith was very important to her.

Dorothy worked at Nichols Bakery in Decatur during and after High School.  She then worked at Hallmark in Decatur.  She later was employed at Wal-Mart as a pharmacy technician since 1991, and retired after 17 years. She made many lifelong friends that supported each other through the years.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers.  She loved traveling, reading and playing the piano. She and Taxi attended regular euchre card parties with friends.

Survivors include two sons, Dan (Harriet) DeLong and Dave DeLong both of Decatur, Indiana; three daughters, Cynthia DeLong, Jenny DeLong and Laurie Blythe all of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Ruth Kunkel of Decatur, Indiana; Robert’s family; sister, Bernadine Hammond of Decatur, Indiana; six grandchildren, Neal Blythe, Crista Blythe, Aaron DeLong, Clayton DeLong, Evan DeLong, and Jordan Ernst; and great-grandchildren  Dylan, Lauren, Graham, Mia, Isabel, and Lucas.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. DeLong; two brothers, Edgar Fuelling and Frederick Fuelling; and sister, Ellen Springer-Thieme.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur with Pastor Zachary Oedewalt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Fuelling.

Family and friends will be received from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Preferred memorials can be given to Zion Lutheran Church or St. Peter Lutheran Church (Fuelling).
