Donald W. Sprunger, 94 of Berne, Indiana passed away Monday, November 2, 2020, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana.
He was born on May 7, 1926 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Fenton Sprunger and the late Mathilda (Felber) Sprunger. Donald married Rose Mary Beitler and she preceded him in death in early March of 1985. He married Betty A. (Shanebeck) Stucky on November 2, 1986.
Donald served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe.
He graduated from Monroe High School in 1944. He then attended Marion College and finished at Taylor University with a four year degree. He then received his Masters from Ball State University. He was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana and previously attended Decatur Wesleyan Church.
Donald was a middle school English teacher at Adams Central Community Schools and he retired in 1985 with 34 years of service.
Donald enjoyed woodworking especially carving. He loved to travel and enjoyed biking.
He is survived by his wife, Betty A. Sprunger of Berne, Indiana; son, Thomas W. (Melinda) Sprunger of Monroe, Indiana; daughter, Sherri J. (Marvin) Stutzman serving on the mission field in Mexico; step-son, Kent (Linda) Stucky of Goshen, Indiana; step-daughter, Kay (Terry) Sheets of Decatur, Indiana; four grandchildren, Holly (Alan) Quandt, Seth Sprunger, Shelby (Austin) Burtsfield and Carson Stutzman; one great-grandson, Rhett Burtsfield; five step-grandchildren, Jessica (Brandon) Hill, Jennifer (Joe) Meyer, Jamie Sheets, Michala (Brian) Roberts, Jacob (Rebecca) Stucky; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil & Joseph Sprunger; and two sisters, Rosanna Wanner & Christine Burch.
A private family service will be held at First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Jim Schwartz & Pastor Joe Kelly officiating. The service will be live-streamed on Vimeo, accessible by following the link on the First Mennonite Church website or the following link…https://vimeo.com/event/16564. Burial will take place at M.R.E. Cemetery following the service with Military services.
Preferred memorials are to Forgotten Children Worldwide.
