Dennis L. Braun, 75, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Adams- Woodcrest. He was born on July 9, 1945 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Martin Braun and the late Bertha (Graft) Braun. Denny was united in marriage to Shirley A. Gallmeyer on June 26, 1971 at Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim and she preceded him in death on December 9, 2018.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War being honorably discharged Airman First Class.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen, where he was involved in many church offices over the years. Denny was also a member of Indiana Farm Bureau.
He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1963, where he was a member of the high school basketball team. Denny was a lifelong grain and hog farmer. He was employed at Farm Bureau Co-Op in Williams for 40 years when he retired in 2009. Following his retirement, he continued to stay connected with area farmers in their activities and progress… notably for his morning coffee stop at the Co-Op.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Denny was also involved in 4-H with his children. He always supported his grandchildren in the many different activities they were involved in. He was fortunate enough to meet his newest grandchild, Cade. He enjoyed spending time outside and mowing his yard. During his time in the United States Air Force he played basketball while stationed overseas.
Denny is survived by a son, Kurt (Stephanie) Braun of Wabash; three daughters, Kristie White of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Kari (fiancé John Jacobs) Braun of Columbia City, Indiana; and Kendra Braun of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Duane Braun of Decatur, Indiana; sister, LaDonna (Steve) McBride of Decatur, Indiana; six grandchildren, Tychicus White, TaQuay White, TiAuna White, Olivia Braun, Mason Braun, & Cade Jacobs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Braun.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen in Decatur, Indiana with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bingen, with military graveside honors being provided by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard.
Friends and family will be received from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and one hour prior to services on Monday. Facemasks will be required for visitation and funeral service.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen or ACCF- Alzheimer’s.
