Deloris M. Whittern

Deloris M. Whittern, 91, of Markle, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Markle Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born on October 27, 1933 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Daniel and Pauline (Schueler) Behrman.

Deloris was united in marriage to Paul Whittern on June 26, 1954 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Soest, and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2021.

Deloris was a long-time member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, ELCA, in Monroeville, Indiana.

After graduating from Hoagland High School, Deloris worked as a secretary at Lincoln Life in Fort Wayne.

Deloris loved baking, and sharing her goodies with family and friends. She also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a den mother for the Monroeville Cub Scouts in her early adult years. Deloris and Paul loved to Western Square dance together. She had a great time playing bid euchre with the family. In her last couple of years, she found joy in her special friendship with Harvey Guenin.

Survivors include her son, David (Carleen) Whittern of Libertyville, Illinois; daughter, Jennifer Love of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Deborah Whittern of Markle, Indiana; special friend, Harvey Guenin of Markle, Indiana; sister, Sharon Behrman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Stan (Carolyn) Behrman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren. Jerry Love III, John Love, Michael Whittern and Nicole Whittern; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son in infancy, Kenneth Whittern; a grandson in infancy, Matthew Whittern; and her sister, Elaine Wilson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana, with Rev. Walter Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Preferred memorials can be given to St. Marks Lutheran Church, in Monroeville.
