Darrell L. Will, 72, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family. This followed an illness of the past several months.
He was born on August 13, 1948, in Sidney, Ohio to Donald P. Will and Doris (Egbert) Will. Darrell was united in marriage to Susan L. Shelburne on May 1, 1971, at St. Joseph Catholic Church- Hessen Cassel and they enjoyed 49 years of marriage.
He graduated high school from Bishop Luers in 1966, and then went on to obtain his A.S. Microprecision and Watch Technology degree from the University of Illinois. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church - Hessen Cassel in Fort Wayne where he served as a lector and a Eucharistic minister.
Darrell proudly served his country from 1968 -1970 in the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam era before being honorably discharged.
He was a watchmaker for and later president of Will Jewelers until his retirement in April of 2015. In retirement, he continued to practice his craft of watchmaking and repair up until his illness prevented him from continuing.
Darrell founded and coached the Heritage High School Girls Soccer program from 1991 until 2006. He was the president of the Fort Wayne Youth Soccer League for many years. In his retirement, Darrell enjoyed volunteering for numerous community organizations. He was an Advanced Indiana Master Naturalist and volunteered for the Allen County Parks at Fox Island and Metea Park. He was on the Fox Island Alliance Board and chairman of the Allen County Indiana Master Naturalist Alumni. He was also the current vice-president of the Hoosier Vintage Thunderbird Club and he enjoyed taking his 1963 Blue Bird to car shows.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Will of Hoagland, Indiana; three daughters, Julianne M. (Gregg DuCharme) Will of Lakewood, Colorado, Valerie R. (James Boozer) Will of Stockton, California and Jessica L. (Drew) Ham of Rogers, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Mia Stephenson, Paige Ham, Margo Ham, Jada Boozer and Janae Boozer; mother, Doris Will of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Diane M (Kerry) Kessens of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Denise (Randy) Copper of Ossian, Indiana; five brothers, Daniel T. (Beth) Will of Monroeville, Indiana, Darren J. (Sherri) Will of Roanoke, Indiana, Dale A. (Susan) Will of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Dean V. (Mari) Will of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Douglas C. (Dawn) Will of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Dixie A. (Kirt) Clark of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Karen Will of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald P. Will and a brother, Dana Will.
A 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Hessen Cassel with Father William Kummer officiating. Seating will be limited. Burial will be follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery- Hessen Cassel with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #43 – Decatur.
Family and friends will be received from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana, and also on Monday from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. at the church prior to Mass. Proper guidelines will be followed and masks are required.
Preferred memorials can be given to Allen County SPCA, Masses to St. Joseph Catholic Church – Hessen Cassel, Fox Island Alliance, or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
