Darrel Stanley “Stan” Ellenberger of Geneva, IN and part time resident of Floral City, FL passed away at his Florida home on April 21, 2020 at the age of 73. Stan was born on May 9, 1946 in Jay County, IN and was one of twelve children born to Herman and Flossie (Calhoun) Ellenberger. In July of 1964 he married Carol Hiday with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Stan was a Tool and Die Maker by trade and together with his wife Carol, owned and operated Stan’s Machine and Tool in Geneva, IN from 1977 to 1998. He starting visiting Florida in 1992 and eventually purchased a home in Floral City, FL. Following retirement in 1997, Stan became an official Florida “Snowbird”, spending a few months out of the year in the Sunshine State. He loved fishing and greatly enjoyed taking charter fishing boat trips from Tarpon Springs, FL and fishing from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, FL. Stan also enjoyed buying and selling antiques from tractor shows, antique fairs and markets.
In addition to his loving wife Carol, those left to mourn Stan’s passing include his daughter, Jeannell Neuenschwander and her husband Allen of Geneva, IN; grandson, Carl Masters of Berne, IN; great grandchild, Adrieen Masters; brothers: Larry Ellenberger of Bryant, IN, Myron “Mike” Ellenberger and his wife Gladys of Reiffsburg, IN; sisters: Bonnie Fear and her husband Melvin of Bryant, IN, Carolyn Rouch and her husband Elwood of Middlebury, IN. He was preceded in death by his dear granddaughter and “best buddy”, Megan Grayson in December of 2019. He was also preceded in death by seven siblings.
Stan will be laid to rest alongside his granddaughter Megan at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton, IN. Indiana arrangements are pending at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, IN. Florida arrangements are under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
Preferred Memorials are requested to be given to the family in c/o Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home.
Private Graveside services at Six Mile Cemetery will be held for family members only.
