Dan Anweiler

August 20, 1929 — February 18, 2020

Ralph “Dan” Anweiler, 90, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Tuesday evening, February 18, 2020, at Swiss Village in Berne where he had resided since August 2019.

He was born on August 20 1929 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late William Anweiler and the late Wilma (Shepler) Anweiler. He married Sondra S. Sonner on June 7, 1958 in Hoagland, Indiana and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2018.

Dan was a graduate of New Haven High School and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He retired in 1998 from the United States Post Office in Fort Wayne with 37 years of service.

He was a longtime member of the Hope United Methodist Church and also the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.

Dan was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan! He loved his family and also his church family. He enjoyed his trips to Michigan with Sondra and their family.

He is survived by three sons, Douglas (Tonja) Anweiler, Tim Anweiler, John (Amy) Anweiler all of Decatur; daughter, Susan Anweiler of Decatur; two sisters-in-law, Lois Anweiler of Georgia and Norma Bishop of Berne; five grandchildren, Kayla Marie Anweiler, Amy Rene Anweiler, Anthony Daniel Gene “Tony” Anweiler, Jessica (Andy) Lee, and Donald (Jackie) Myers; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Todd Anweiler; a daughter, Cynthia Kay Anweiler in infancy; a great-grandson, Jaden Myers; and two brothers, Ed and Bill Anweiler.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Hope United Methodist Church with Pastor Art Augspurger officiating. Burial will be held at the Decatur Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur.

Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2019, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to Hope United Methodist Church or Family LifeCare in Berne.
