Dale F. Schott, 95, of Fort Wayne, Ind. passed away Saturday evening, October 30, 2021 at Kingston at DuPont Memory Care Center in Fort Wayne.
Dale was born November 26, 1925 in Chattanooga, Ohio to the late Fred W. Schott and the late Wilhemina Emerich.
He was united in marriage to Mary E. Reynolds on April 21, 1956 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Monroeville, Ind., and she preceded him in death on January 22, 2016.
Dale worked as a repairman for International Harvester Company for almost 25 years, retiring in August of 1983. He also worked for the U.S. Rubber Company in Fort Wayne from 1948 until 1958.
He was a 1944 graduate of Monroe High School, and then he earned a diploma from the Industrial Training Institute in Chicago, Ill.
As a member of the United State Army Air Corps, Dale served in Italy during World War II before being honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. During his time in the military, he completed 42 missions as a tail gunner on a B-24 Bomber, an accomplishment of which he was very proud.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, South Anthony in Fort Wayne, where he previously served as a deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #330 in New Haven, Ind.
Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He never ate a pie he didn’t like. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children, Mark Schott, Susan Schott and Marlene Berning, all of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren, Christy (Jeff) Buuck, Benjamin (Ebru) Berning and Kelsey (Isaac) Saxton; five great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Dale was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Edwards, Leah Smith, Irene Herron, and Anna Schlechte; and six brothers, Glenn, Ralph, Clarence, Ray, Paul, and Alfred Schott.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Jacobs Chapel, 111 South Water Street, Monroeville with Pastor Ben Ahlersmeyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
Graveside military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #330 Color Guard.
Friends and family will be received from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
