Cyril J. “Cy” Linder , 97, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Sunday evening, January 6, 2019 at Parkview Hospital, Randallia in Fort Wayne.
He was born on April 22, 1921in Allen County, Indiana to the late William C. Linder and the late Pernetta J. (Smith) Linder. He was united in marriage to Marjorie M. Jacquay on January 10, 1942 and she preceded him in death on August 31, 2008.
Cy served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II and was honorably discharged.
He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon (and was the 2nd oldest member) and the American Legion Post #330 of New Haven. He had also been a former member of the American Legion Post #420 Monroeville.
He retired in May 1983 from International Harvester with 42 years of service as an engineer. In addition, he also was a TV repairman in his spare time. Staying involved with his children was important and he spent many hours coaching their sports teams.
In addition to spending time with his family, Cy enjoyed dancing, traveling, camping, playing cards, gardening, and sports (especially “Indiana” teams). Marjorie and Cy were very accomplished dancers. They started with ballroom dancing and eventually learned other styles as well.
He is survived by daughter, Sandra (Ronald) Dager of New Haven; son, Dennis (Jody) Linder of Monroeville; son, John F. (Rita) Linder of Fort Wayne; son, Richard A. (Jane) Linder of Bedford, NH; daughter, Barbara (Michael) Slater of Fort Wayne; daughter, Lisa (Gerald) Litchfield of New Haven; brother, Carl Linder of Fort Wayne; brother, Edward Linder of Decatur; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; & three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Linder and two sisters, Donna Weber and Mary Grimmer.
A prayer service will held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon with Fr. Ben Muhlenkamp officiating. Burial will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Besancon with Military graveside honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #420 Color Guard.
Family & friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and from 9:00 a.m. until the prayer service at the funeral home on Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to Masses, Ronald McDonald House, or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
