Connie L Maassel

October 4, 1952 — April 16, 2024

Connie L. Maassel, 71, of New Haven, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne after being suddenly stricken at home.

She was born on October 4, 1952 in Wolf Lake, Indiana, the daughter of John H. and Ilene M. (Jacob) Young.

Connie was united in marriage to Rich Maassel on September 24, 1976 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Albion, Indiana.

Connie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church – Gar Creek where she participated as a member of their quilting group, in addition to faithfully attending Bible studies at the church.  Along with her husband Rich, she participated in Via de Cristo (Way of Christ) in Columbus Ohio.

Following her graduation from college, Connie taught at East Noble School Corporation.  She later worked for National Groundwater Association in Westerville Ohio.

Connie treasured the many years of traveling and hiking.  Together with Rich, they visited 45 states.  Connie liked to collect figurines, coffee mugs and tins.  Spending time with Rich while watching historical documentaries on television was a pastime she also treasured.  She served her Lord by preparing and serving food for various church events.  But her first love was her family, who she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with.  One way she showed her love for them was with cooking wonderful meals, and baking cookies, pies, and cakes. It was also through this love of family that she found great pleasure in researching the genealogy of her family.

Connie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Rich Maassel of New Haven.  Their family was blessed with two sons,
John Maassel and Kevin Maassel, both of Blacklick, OH.  She will also be missed by her two sisters, Cheryl Young and Cathy Thiem, both of Kendallville, IN, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Maassel and her sister Carolyn Ackman.

Funeral services for Connie will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran - Gar Creek, New Haven, Indiana with Pastor Michael Blodgett officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church - Gar Creek Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran – Gar Creek, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday also at the church.

Preferred memorials for Connie can be made to St. Paul Lutheran – Gar Creek or Central Lutheran School.
