Clifford A. “Cliff” Umpleby, 95, of Berne, Indiana passed away Thursday afternoon, December 21, 2023, surrounded by his family at Swiss Village in Berne.
He was born September 17, 1928, in Richmond, Indiana to the late Clifford Ray and Helen Vivian (Logue) Umpleby. He was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Gabbard on November 6, 1953, in Richmond, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on February 14, 2004.
Cliff served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Bethel Brethren Church in Berne, Indiana, and was a past member of the Berne Lions Club.
Cliff retired from the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier and he had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Cliff was a local businessman with Cliff’s Studio and Mr. Moped.
Cliff was very talented at woodworking and had a love for swimming. Cliff was also an avid photographer. A lifelong enthusiast of trains, Cliff's fascination with the rails was endless. Cliff could be often found settled in his favorite chair, watching old Westerns. Above all, Cliff was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his son, Jack (Karen) Umpleby of Slinger, Wisconsin; son, Joseph (Deanne) Umpleby of Phoenix, Arizona; son, James (Laura) Umpleby of Nappanee, Indiana; daughter, Julie (Pete) Rodriguez of Riverside, California; nine grandchildren, Shaenna Umpleby, Brynley Umpleby, Kylee Umpleby, Cody (Karin) Umpleby, Timothy (Baylee) Umpleby, Tyler Umpleby, Kyrsten Umpleby, Karis (Nathan) Story, and Ashley (Alex) Velez; and four great-grandchildren, Gracyn, Michael, Savannah, and Selena.
A Private Family Entombment will be held at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond, Indiana and a Celebration of Life Service will be announced in the near future.
