Claudette Marlene (Nagel) Stauffer, 90, of Berne, Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Swiss Village. Born November 23, 1931, in Berne, she was the daughter of the late Gus and Ruth (Hofstetter) Nagel. She was united in marriage to Fred Stauffer on September 1, 1951, at First Mennonite Church in Berne.
Claudette loved being with family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She graduated from Berne High School in 1949 and often helped with her parents' business, Nagel's Quality Flowers. She was a faithful member of First Mennonite Church in Berne, loved music, and spent many years singing in the Chancel Choir, the Ladies Sextet, and Mennonite Choral Society presentations including Handel's Messiah and The Creation. Having a special fondness for babies and young children, Claudette enjoyed helping with the Migrant Day Care Center located at the church. She had a flair for decorating and flower arranging; created front window displays at the Et Cetera Ecke, and spent numerous hours caring for plants and flowers at the church. She also loved counted cross-stitching, collecting dolls, and reading which included participating in a book club for several years.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Fred Stauffer of Berne, Indiana; children, Bob (Judy) Stauffer of Harlan, Indiana, Diane Stauffer of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Mike (Erin) Stauffer of Indianapolis, Indiana; two grandchildren, Nate (Becca) Stauffer of Harlan, Indiana, and Ryan (Katie) Stauffer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and five great-grandchildren, Kade, Lila, Brandon, Kayla, and Jacob. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jim Stauffer; and brothers, Connie and Chuck Nagel.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Jeff Linthicum and Pastor Jim Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery.The service will be live-streamed and can be accessed by using the link www.firstmennonite.org .
A visitation for the Swiss Village Residents will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Swiss Village Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, and one hour prior to service at the church on Sunday.
Preferred memorials may be made to the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund or the Mennonite Choral Society.
