Clair D. Christener, 96, of Berne, Indiana passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 31, 2024, at Swiss Village in Berne surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 11, 1927, in Berne, Indiana to the Charles Christener and F. Irene (Laisure)
Christener. Clair was united in marriage to Lanetta Bertsch on February 18, 1951, and she preceded him in death on September 22, 2015.
Clair was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving in Panama.
He was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne, where he had previously served as a deacon, Board of Consistory, and the church custodian. He was also a member of the Berne Conservation Club in Berne for many years.
Clair graduated from Monroe High School in 1945. Clair was employed at Moser Motors Sales in Berne as a mechanic for 64 years.
Clair enjoyed hunting, fishing and horse shoe throwing. He was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Adams County Bowling Hall of Fame.
Clair is survived by his son, Sheldon (Judy) Christener of Decatur, Indiana; son, Kendric (Carolyn) Christener of Monroe, Indiana; six grandchildren, Jeff Christener, Jessica (Eric) Sharp, Allison (Michael) Dunson, Ashley (Landon) House, Andrea (Mike) Trevino, and Kathryn Christener; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Clair was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Christener; brother, Carl Christener; and a sister, Chrystal Hook.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Swiss Village Chapel in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Warren Willie officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery with Military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 43 Color Guard.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2024, at Swiss Village.
Preferred memorials are to Swiss Village Samaritan Fund or Donor’s Choice.
