Charles F. Crosby, 94, of Monroeville, Indiana, formerly a lifelong resident of Adams County, passed away Monday, May 15, 2023 at Adams Heritage in Monroeville, Indiana.

He was born on October 25, 1928, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Fred V. Crosby and the late Amelia A. (Fuelling) Crosby. He became a child of God at his baptism on December 12, 1928 at The English Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he confirmed his faith on April 6, 1941 at St. Peter Fuelling Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana.

Charles was united in marriage to Ruth David on April 18, 1953, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2014 after 61 years of marriage.

He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fuelling, where he served on numerous church offices and on several church committees over the years.

He graduated in 1946 from Monmouth High School. He was a lifelong farmer in Root Township and owned and operated a rural milk route for 10 years. Charles retired in 1989, from Dana Corporation after 30 years of service.

Charles was an avid IU fan, loved the lake and came to appreciate Purdue. He loved St. Peter Lutheran Church and St. Peter-Immanuel Lutheran School, and supported them throughout his life with all his, time, talents and treasures.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah M. (Ian) McDonald of Decatur, Indiana; son, Charles “Butch” (Jill) Crosby of Angola, Indiana; son, Michael W. (Bonnie) Crosby of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Diane R. (Charles) Dorantes of Waterford, Michigan; sister, Dorothy Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, James (Anna) Crosby of Ossian, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Madigan, Elizabeth McDonald, Megan (Jon) Haverland, Shane (Kayla) Crosby, Alyssa (Pete) Nochta, Michael T. (Shelby) Crosby, Drew Dorantes, Tyler Dorantes, and Kennedy Dorantes; and six great-grandchildren, Delaney, Maisie, Crosby, and Ainsley Madigan; Austin Charles Haverland; and Marjorie Ruth Crosby.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Kay Ann on April 5, 1956; brother, Franklin (Carol) Crosby; infant sister, Katherine Crosby; sister, Mary (William Kenney, Gilbert Thieme) Thieme; and brother-in-law, Glen Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling with Pastor Leonard Tanksley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21 2023, at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Preferred memorial can be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling, St Peter-Immanuel Lutheran School, or Worship Anew.
