Carol Jane Dailey, 86, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born on March 10, 1938, to Robert “Ted” and Luella (Fink) Everhart in Geneva. On May 15, 1954, Carol married Donald E. Dailey, the love of her life. They shared many wonderful years together until his death on January 7, 2005.
Carol lived most of her life in Adams County. She and Don, with the assistance of family, built their first home together outside Geneva. They then purchased a small farm “on a one-mile road in the middle of nowhere” close to the Ohio line. Afterwards, Carol and Don moved to Linn Grove and later to Berne. Several years after Don’s death, Carol relocated to Bluffton, Indiana to be closer to family.
Carol worked for many years at Economy Printing and House of White Birches in Berne.
She will be remembered by her family and friends as a wonderful cook. She especially loved making (and eating) pies, with sugar cream and pecan being specialties. Carol was featured in a magazine once as the “cook of the month.” Hosting family gatherings gave Carol a lot of joy and satisfaction. Carol was also an avid reader and enjoyed reading the newspaper daily.
Her survivors include a daughter-in-law, Susan Dailey ; son, Don (Carol) Dailey, eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) McCullough, Jerod (Rebecca) Dailey, Jessica (Brent) Bush, Jackelyn Sciscoe, Justin (Alicia) Dailey, Stefanie (Derrick) Kipfer, Ben (Jackie) Dailey and Kevin (Audrey) Dailey; 13 great-grandchildren, Jevalyn (Tom Welling) McCullough, YuLeeza (Jon) Kohne, Karthon (Hayley) McCullough, Sofie, Lucas, William Kipfer, Caleb, Lydia, Naomi Dailey, Cora and Eliza Dailey, Keaton Bush and Madeline Dailey; 9 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.
In addition to her husband, Donald E. Dailey and parents, Carol was preceded in death by a son, Douglas L. Dailey; two sisters, Helen Dock and Barbara “Joy “ Earhart; brother, Robert Everhart.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne with Pastor John McCullough officiating. Burial will follow at Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Bluffton, Indiana.
Friends and family will be received from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Stillwater Hospice.
